競賽背景
德國巴克南市（City of Backnang）與2027年國際建筑展覽會（International Building Exhibition 2027）共同發起了“關愛小鎮：巴克南西部社區2050城市設計競賽”（Urban Planning Competition Backnang West Neighborhood 2050–the Caring Town）。競賽的目的是在巴登-符騰堡的雷姆斯穆爾區（Rems-Murr district in Baden-Württemberg）擁有3.7萬居民的巴克南鎮（Backnang）的一處原工業用地上，設計一個宜居、經得起未來考驗的城市社區概念方案。自2019年以來，占地約16.7公頃巴克南西部社區就一直是2027國際建筑展網絡的一部分。
競賽是單階段的、非公開的城市規劃競賽，將會有初選的過程，之后會選擇24個參賽團隊獲準參加比賽。這24名參賽者中有6組由比賽組織者提前挑選，這提前入選6組團隊分別是：Helmut Jahn,JAHN（美國），MVRDV（荷蘭），Herzog&De Meuron（瑞士），KCAP Architects&Planners（荷蘭），Cobe（丹麥），Steidle Architekten（待定，德國），另外18名將從提交的設計提案中擇優選擇。
